Speaker Series: Talking Vaccines and Shots

This session will be led by High Street Guardian Pharmacy, Pharmacist Magdy Kamar.

Magdy Kamar is currently a practicing pharmacist and owner of High St Guardian Pharmacy in Peterborough, across from Lansdowne Mall in the same plaza as Kawartha dairy and Cora's restaurants. Magdy has been practicing pharmacy for 26 years in Peterborough and the surrounding area, with experience working in hospital and corporate environments, but succeeded the most in community pharmacy as a family pharmacist. He has been a pharmacy owner for over 20 years and opened many pharmacies here in Peterborough and the surrounding area during his time. Magdy has been a Peterborough resident for 28 years and has always played a very active role in the community. Magdy has been a soccer coach for many age groups, leading some to win trophies. Magdy has also sponsored many soccer and hockey teams. He is currently the president of the Kawartha Muslim Religious Association, which is the mosque here in Peterborough, for two years and one of the original founding trustees of the Peterborough mosque, Masjid Al-Salaam. He supported Abraham’s Festival which is an annual gathering that celebrates common grounds between the three religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. He started an International Arabic Language program with the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board that currently has 110 students learning the Arabic language. He has supported various local food banks in Peterborough and offered Free Halal Meat. He has also been an active role model and leader for the Syrian Newcomers since the Canadian government opened its doors for them. He has organized fundraisers for the Syrian newcomers to help offer free clothes, food, and furniture. He partnered with the New Canadians Centre, the NCC, to help integrate the new Syrian Canadians into Canadian culture. He is the official pharmacist for the Syrian refugees, and attends most physician clinic appointments, and conducts hospital visits to help with translation, and works alongside Peterborough healthcare providers ensuring optimal care is given to them. Magdy is a member of the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce. Last year, Magdy’s pharmacy, High St Guardian Pharmacy, was the official pharmacy for the Peterborough Petes. Magdy has also been invited to give talks at various churches and colleges about various health topics and hosted many clinics himself at his pharmacy.
